Psychological Therapy

At Terra Psychological Services, we offer a range of therapeutic interventions to those experiencing difficulties with their wellbeing.

Terra Psychological Services

As HCPC registered psychologists, we are passionate about offering evidence-based psychological therapies that can support recovery from a range of mental health issues. Most of our therapy is delivered online, thought we do offer some in person sessions too. Please get in contact to discuss further.

Therapy for mental health difficulties

We offer therapy for a range of mental health difficulties, including PTSD and complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and OCD. We use a range of different approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and compassion focussed therapy (CFT), and will work with you to find an approach that works best for you. We are experienced in adapting therapy for individuals who are neurodivergent.

When beginning your therapeutic journey, we will meet with you to assess your needs and current difficulties, and will think with you about how different factors in your life may have contributed to your current feelings. We will consider which therapies may be useful for you, and will discuss this with you. If we believe that another clinician or intervention is better suited for you, we will always discuss this with you and support with onward referrals.

Relationship work

As well as working to support mental health difficulties, we are particularly experienced in working with families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships. This can manifest in a lot of different ways including risky behaviour in adolescents, ‘challenging behaviour’ like hitting out or misbehaving in teens and younger children, and even in physical health difficulties. We are skilled in working relationally with parents and children, from infancy to adolescence to help you to strengthen your bond, discuss challenges in a safe and healthy way, and learn more about one another.

We also know that often traumatic or scary experiences can happen in the context of a relationship, particularly for children. We are skilled and experienced in helping families to process these experiences together, using psychotherapeutic approaches to recover and heal relationships between parents and children. We often use toys and games to help children to share their feelings and look to the future.

Contact with the criminal justice system & social care

At Terra, we are very experienced in working with children and adults who have had contact with the criminal justice system, including those who have been convicted of crimes, those who have spent time in prison or in the youth justice system, and those who have parents or partners who may have been convicted of offences. We are skilled in assessing risk and helping to understand these experiences and what they might mean for you.

We understand the complex emotions that often surround these experiences, including feelings of shame, injustice, and confusion. We understand that these events often feel shocking and frightening, and can have a significant impact on your identity. We offer psychological support to help people to manage these experiences, and work regularly with children of imprisoned parents, non-offending partners, and people who have committed offences themselves. We also have experience of working with individuals who have been incorrectly accused of offences.

We also understand that sometimes, families can have contact with social care that proves very difficult to manage, and can trigger difficult feelings. While we hope that most families will have positive experiences of support, we recognise that this is not always the case. We are experienced in working with the complexities of social care, and can help you to think through and process this experience.

If you are experiencing a mental health difficulty or problem that is not detailed on this page, please do get in contact with the team as we may still be able to offer support, or can direct you to other services who may be better placed to meet your needs.

‘I was nervous before coming to therapy, but Beth made me feel so at ease. She treated me with kindness and compassion, and we laughed together a lot too. My symptoms have reduced significantly, and I feel like me again. I have been on a long journey, and I’m glad that Beth was the therapist who was on this journey with me.’
